Interacting with the Report
As the school math coordinator, you want to determine which grades need the most support based on the growth index.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
- In the filter panel, select the Growth columns needed under Data to Display.
- In the Tests and Subjects section, click the arrows next to the Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST) and Ohio's State Tests End-of-Course (OST EOC) filters to expand them.
- Deselect all subjects except math under Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST) and Ohio's State Tests End-of-Course (OST EOC).
- The growth data for math in the current year appears in the report.
As an elementary school principal, you would like to determine whether a support program for fifth-grade math has produced positive growth and achievement results over the last two years.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
- In the filter panel, select the Growth and Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
- In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST) filter to expand it.
- Clear the check boxes for all subjects except math.
- Expand the menu for math and select fifth grade.
- Under Years, select the check boxes for the two most recent years.
- The growth and achievement data appears in the report.
As a middle school principal, you are meeting with the math department to show their students' achievement upon exiting each grade.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
- In the filter panel, select the Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
- In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST) filter to expand it.
- Deselect all subjects except math.
- Expand the menu for math to deselect any grade that you don't want to view.
- Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
- The data appears in the report.
As the math coordinator, you are documenting the results of a grant supporting your students' learning in math. Use the School Value-Added report to find the math growth indexes of last year's fifth-grade cohort over the past two years.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
- In the filter panel, select the Growth columns needed under Data to Display.
- In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST) filter to expand the menu.
- Deselect all subjects except math.
- Expand the menu for math and deselect all grades except fifth grade.
- Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
- The data appears in the report.
The principal asked for your assistance in recognizing grades in the school that exhibit high growth in math.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
- In the filter panel, select the Effectiveness Level check box under Data to Display.
- In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST) filter to expand the menu.
- Deselect all subjects except math.
- In the Effectiveness Level section, deselect the Yellow, Orange, and Red check boxes.
- Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
- The data appears in the report.
As the school admin, you are preparing for a vertical team meeting with your middle school math teachers. At this meeting, you want to display math growth results and discuss the trends.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
- In the filter panel, select the Growth and Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
- In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to Ohio's State Tests (4-8) (OST).
- Deselect all subjects except math.
- Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
- The data appears in the report.
As a school principal, you want to compare your school's growth measures in Science to other schools in the district.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading. Change the currently selected School to your school if needed.
- In the filter panel, under Districts and Schools, click Add a Comparison. A new District and Schools… drop-down menu populates.
- Select one of the Schools you want to compare from the drop-down menu.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the schools are added. You can add up to 10 schools to the comparison list.
- In the Test and Subjects section, deselect all subjects except Science.
- The growth data for Science in five schools appear in the report and can be compared.
